In April, we visited Portugal for the first time. We had heard nothing but great things about the Algarve region, most known for Lagos, a popular beach holiday destination among Europeans. We knew the Algarve area was quite vast – as it covers the entire southern coast of Portugal. As platinum members of SPG, we always tend to see what options they offer first when making a decision. The only hotel available in the region was the Pine Cliffs Hotel, a Luxury Collection Resort.
Where to Stay in Algarve, Portugal: The Pine Cliffs Resort
After browsing the site and seeing the beautiful photos of the property, we decided the Pine Cliffs would be a great option for us. We knew it was a 45-minute drive from Lagos, the main sacrifice of staying in Albufeira versus Lagos, but we opted to use points for the stay, making the entire three nights completely free, a sacrifice worth making.
Not only that, the property looked absolutely stunning and we wanted a resort-like vacation for this portion of the trip, so we knew it was the best place to stay in Algarve.
Where To Stay in Algarve: Tons of hotel options in one!
The Pine Cliffs offer multiple property choices ranging from the Hotel (where we stayed) and Ocean Suites to the Residences and Vacation Club.
Based on your price range and length of stay, the Hotel and Ocean Suites seem to be the best option. The Ocean Suites are a new tower built in the last year and located right next to the Hotel. For our points use, the Hotel made the most sense, but the rooms at the Pine Cliffs Ocean Suites are brand new and more modern, so if that’s your style and you’re paying out-of-pocket, I’d recommend that.
Pools + Dining at The Pine Cliffs:
There are multiple pools around the entire resort, five near the hotel, and you’re just steps away from the ocean. If it’s not too windy, the beach is a great spot to relax as it’s pretty quiet and on a secluded portion since the resort is pretty vast in size. Unfortunately, it was extremely windy when we were there. We had an afternoon meal at the beachfront restaurant, Pine Cliffs Beach Club by Olivier, and while the views were amazing, the wind was not.
As for other dining options, the resort has 11 overall, all catering to different needs whether you want to sip champagne and watch the sunset at Mirador, or enjoy the breakfast spread at Jardim Colonial every morning.
Corda Café at the Pine Cliffs Hotel
If you have at least two nights to spend and do not plan on being in Lagos the entire time, I definitely recommend Pine Cliffs. If your trip is focused solely on Lagos and you only have a night or two and do not want to explore the rest of Algarve (here’s a list of really cool places to see in Algarve!), then I would go for a place much closer to Lagos, preferably in town. If you are traveling through Algarve with a car, parking at the Pine Cliffs is quite easy, and it’s free. So that’s another bonus too.
