Have you ever been so spontaneous that you took a flight to another city, and just for the day? I spent this past Saturday in LA and Uber helped make it a hassle-free day, something we all know can be a rarity when it comes to dealing with getting around LA.
I had purchased tickets to the Museum of Ice Cream in San Francisco twice this fall, and for one reason or another my plans changed and I wasn’t able to go. When they decided to re-release LA tickets, I jumped on it knowing my schedule can change often, but I was adamant about making this day trip to Los Angeles happen. Nearly two months went by and of course, I was doubtful on being able to go, so I tabled the idea. Within days of the event, we decided to buy plane tickets to Los Angeles and figured we’d just wing it.
I don’t know about you but I am all for spontaneity in many ways, such as last-minute trips. But there’s also a part of me that loves to be organized when I travel. I figure, if I can get part of the trip planned out, then it leaves more room to focus on the fun stuff. Knowing that I had a 7:15 am flight and was already going to be cutting it close, I scheduled an Uber ride from my house to the airport. I’m the kind of flyer who walks into the airport with less than an hour to departure (Clear, TSA precheck, and carrying-on may give me too much confidence in being able to do that!). That being said, I want to squeeze every extra minute of the typical 4-5 hours of sleep I get before an early flight. Scheduling a ride in advance was one less thing I had to deal with.
The day of the trip to Los Angeles, I made it to the airport with plenty of time to spare thanks to my uberX. While killing some time at the airport, I used the LAX info page to make sure I would be meeting my next driver in the right spot. It was also nice to pull an estimate even before scheduling our ride to see what it was going to cost us.
Visiting The Museum of Ice Cream
Once we met up with our driver it only took us 25 minutes to get to our brunch spot and the MOIC. (Side note: I still can’t believe we didn’t hit any traffic this day!)
After wrapping up at the MOIC, we found ourselves with ample time before our evening flights.
Where to eat and shop on a day trip to Los Angeles: Abbot Kanney
Abbot Kinney was already on our radar (I had been there before) but it was one of those areas I had strolled through but never paid much attention to the best shopping and dining spots. We called another uberX and headed west to the well-known beachside shopping area. Along the drive, our driver shared insight on some of the best restaurants and insta-worthy spots. After all, we did fly to Los Angeles for an insta-adventure at the MOIC so it was only fitting we continued it elsewhere in LA. After some holiday shopping and eating to our heart’s content, we hopped in our previously scheduled ride back to LAX.
Thanks to Uber for sponsoring this post. All opinions are my own.
